Solar insurance in Brazil

The manufacturer's warranty covers manufacturing defects only. Fire, lightning, windstorm, hail, theft and power surges need insurance. Silizium partners with Ombrello Solar, the solar line of the Brazilian broker Ombrello Seguros, to cover every phase of a project — from the contract to years of operation.

One cover for each phase of the project

The engineering-risk policy and the performance bond belong to the installer (the job and the contract are theirs); the equipment policy belongs to the system owner, who usually buys it together with the installation.

Contract

Performance bond

Guarantees the client that the job will be delivered on time and fully to scope. The insurer acts as guarantor and compensates the client if the contract is not fulfilled.

  • Required in public tenders and by many private companies
  • Cheaper and simpler than a cash deposit or bank guarantee
  • Quoted for each contract
Installation

Engineering risk

Covers the photovoltaic plant during installation and assembly — from the kit arriving on the roof until the system is switched on.

  • Fire, lightning, windstorm, hail, flooding
  • Theft, lifting and falls
  • Optional: third-party and employer liability, loss of profits, debris removal
  • Per job, or an annual policy with monthly inclusion of jobs
Operation

Equipment damage (RD)

Once installed, protects modules, inverters and the rest of the kit against external events — what the manufacturer's warranty does not cover.

  • Fire, explosion, lightning, windstorm, hail, hurricane and cyclone
  • Flooding and stray bullets
  • Theft and electrical damage
  • Windstorm liability and extraordinary expenses
E-mobility

EV chargers

Equipment cover for wallboxes and charging stations, at home or in a business.

  • Fire, lightning and explosion
  • Theft
  • Electrical damage
  • Salvage and containment expenses

How to get a quote

Ombrello Solar handles quotes, policies and claims in Portuguese. Send the system size (kWp), the project value, the city and the equipment list; the Brazilian page builds this message for you from a Silizium project.

Silizium is neither an insurer nor an insurance broker: this page presents the solutions of Ombrello Solar, a line of Ombrello Seguros, and forwards quote requests to it. Coverages, limits and deductibles follow the material published by Ombrello; acceptance of the risk, price and general conditions are set in the proposal and in the policy issued by the insurer.

Frequently asked questions

Does the manufacturer's warranty cover lightning or theft?

No. The manufacturer's warranty covers manufacturing defects only. Fire, lightning, windstorm, hail, theft and electrical damage are covered by equipment insurance (RD).

Which insurance applies in each phase of a solar project?

At the contract, the performance bond (when the client requires a guarantee). During installation, engineering risk, which protects the kit and the job. After switch-on, equipment damage (RD), which follows the owner through operation.

Do I need a policy for every installation?

No. Engineering risk can be bought per job or as an annual policy that covers all installations, with the jobs of each month added to it.

Is Silizium the insurer?

No. Silizium prepares the quote request and sends it to Ombrello Seguros, a broker specialised in special risks. Proposal, policy, conditions and claims are handled by Ombrello and the insurer.
